Brazil Telecommunications Q4 2019

Brazil Telecommunications Q4 2019

Key View :

Brazil's mobile market has endured 16 quarters of negative subscriber growth, the result of operators separating low-cost M2M SIMs from their higher value voice-and-data phone customer bases. They have also been migrating customers from low-value prepaid services to more valuable post-paid and multi-service bundles. The latter are increasingly focused around affordablebroadband and TV services and are revenue-dilutive when bundle discounting is employed. Those operators withwireline businesses are now turning to fibre to better monetise the premium segment and will invest heavily over the next threeyears. However, they are likely to be distracted by upcoming auctions of 5G spectrum and the high cost of deploying 5Ginfrastructure. Brazilian operators are enduring relatively thin margins, so this will put further pressure on them to contain costs.Oi's financial restructuring is ongoing, meaning that it may not be able to adapt to changing market conditions as easily as its peers.
