The Brazilian consumer electronics market and industry was hit hard by the economic crisis in 2015-2016, before arebound in 2017 as economic trends became supportive. The recovery was however short-lived as the prospect of populist victoryin the October 2018 elections weighed on confidence and saw the real once again depreciate against the US dollar and erodeBrazilian consumer purchasing power for imported consumer electronics devices. However, there is potential for a medium-termrecovery in the consumer electronics market following a positive outcome in the elections, which would also benefit the domesticindustry because of its focus on the home market and lack of export success.
