This will help to offset a short-term decline in travel from keyregional markets, particularly South Africa. The growth potential offered by Botswana is substantial andover the long term the country could develop as a major safari holiday destination to rival more establishedmarkets such as Kenya, though short-term growth will remain hampered by limited international flightconnectivity.

Key Updates And Forecasts

A lack of direct international flight routes to major European markets continues to hamper the inboundtravel market, as does the underdevelopment of the hotel market. As such, growth in inbound arrivals willremain slow at around 1.5% throughout the forecast period, leading to arrivals of 3.1mn in 2020.
