Botswana Insurance Q2 2018

Botswana Insurance Q2 2018

BMI View: We have revised down our life sector forecasts, in view of a 5.2% decline in the gross value of premiums in 2016. However, we remain reasonably upbeat overall. A strong core recovery of the economy from 2018, in a context where life premiums are an increasingly significant conduit for organised savings, should enable life premiums to record moderately strong growth over the next five years in both local currency and US dollar terms, albeit not quite at the rate seen before 2016. The cyclical upswing should also support the non-life sector, with the transport and personal accident segments outperforming.
