Bangladesh Telecommunications Q1 2020
There are few opportunities in growing the wireline segment in Bangladesh given that last-mile infrastructure has longsuffered from a lack of investment from the telecoms incumbents. Mobile will be the primary driver of growth and is the focus foroperators, which have been keen to expand the availability of their new 4G networks as well as expand adoption through the sale oflow-cost 4G-compatible featurephones. Organic growth is still expected to some degree as mobile penetration rates are still far fromthe 100% mark, although SIM deactivations and multi-SIM ownership will distort growth. The regulator remains keen onconcentration of market share in the hands of mobile market leader Grameenphone and is pursuing new rules to regulate themarket power of the operator.
