Bahamas Insurance Q4 2019
As of mid-2019, the latest news flow confirms our view that the prospects for the Bahamas’ insurance sector are positive, but unexciting. Growth in premiums should be a lot more rapid in the non-life segment than in the life segment. The property andcasualty insurers have pricing power, and should be able to pass on higher claims (and other) costs to their customers. Motorinsurers should also benefit from higher volumes and prices. At the margin, the law changes that will provide for a single regulatoryenvironment, covering both domestic and offshore/captive insurers should be positive. The life insurance segment is mature. Thereis little prospect for growth in new users. Nevertheless, particular life insurance companies may be able to expand into healthinsurance.
