Australia Telecommunications Report Q2 2018
The Australian telecommunications market continues to perform in line with our expectations. Operators areaggressively developing their LTE and LTE-Advanced networks in the country as 2G services come to a complete halt in thesaturated mobile landscape. Revenue growth will come from upselling advanced mobile data services to a mature consumer basewith a growing appetite for data. Furthermore, Regional Australia and underserved parts of the country will benefit from increaseduptake of 4G LTE services, and the arrival of TPG Telecom as the fourth national mobile carrier in 2019/20 will bode well for the long-term competitive dynamics of the mature market. The fixed market is dominated by the National Broadband Network, which passed7mn premises at the end of 2017. Greater flexibility in terms of technology, with the addition of satellite and cable and the movetowards vectoring and fibre-to-the node has helped uptake. On the content side, all operators are looking to add premium services, but they face strong competition from independent providers, such as Netflix.
