Australia Power Report Q2 2018
An increasingly robust project pipeline for the non-hydropower renewables sector is boosting growth prospects inAustralia's otherwise-subdued power market. A broad range of wind and solar power projects have been announced, and whilethere is a significant bottleneck at the planning stage, we do expect to see substantial growth in the renewables segment over thecoming years. In contrast, the outlook is increasingly subdued for the leading coal-fired segment as the focus in thermal sectorturns towards cleaner natural-gas fired power plants. Vital to the successful expansion of the renewables market will be themodernisation of transmission and distribution infrastructure in order to smooth out supplies and avoid power shortages, whichhave resulted in surging wholesale prices in the past.
