Spending on food and drink in Algeria will record solid short-term growth, though pricing pressures in the wake ofreduced subsidies and rising consumer price inflation will erode growth in real terms. Investment potential remains limited due tothe significant structural challenges facing retailers and manufacturers in the market, including a lack of modern infrastructure, pooraccess to financing and an uncertain political environment. Upside risk does however stem from ongoing urbanisation, thedevelopment of new, modern retail spaces, and ongoing improvements to household spending power.
