In 2022, the Czech Republic recorded 65,676 new cancer cases, making cancer one of the leading causes of death in the country. The cancer burden is rising rapidly, with approximately 27,000 deaths annually. Key factors contributing to this increase include high alcohol consumption and a growing obese population.
The government plays a crucial role in cancer management through the maintenance of the National Oncological Register (NOR), which helps track and manage cancer data. The country has also established an effective cancer screening program that has significantly improved cancer diagnosis rates over the past decade. This improved monitoring of epidemiological trends enables public authorities to better support the adoption of innovative cancer treatments during the forecast period. While cervical cancer screening is a focus for public health efforts, participation rates among women remain relatively low and need to be increased for improved disease control. Therefore, sustained investment in ensuring equitable access to treatment is vital to addressing the escalating cancer burden in the Czech Republic.
