Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) pipeline update

Introduction: With CML's relatively low prevalence, the potential market for drugs launched for this indication historically has been insufficient in size to allow companies to rapidly recoup their investment. Accordingly, only a handful of drugs have been approved for chronic leukemia in the last decade. However, since the launch of Novartis' Gleevec (imatinib mesylate), significant revenues have been accrued, drawing industry attention to the CML market. Scope: * Provides a full breakdown of the Gleevec sales phenomenon, with detailed explanations and analysis. * Looks at the CML pipeline and provides product profiles, clinical data and forecast revenues to 2010. * Assesses the CML market's future based on the attention that Gleevec has provided and where the attention will likely move in the future. Report Highlights: Genta/Aventis' Genasense (augmerosen) is forecast significant revenues in CML due to its chemosensitizing activity with most cytotoxic agents. Gleevec resistance in blast phase CML will provide new products with opportunity to gain market share and establish a strong position. The CML market represents a strong market for future development, however most of the lucrative revenue streams can be found through off-label drug usage in the acute leukemias. Reasons to Purchase: * Access insights into the developmental gains available through CML and into the path to a successful revenue stream. * Identify how targeting CML can provide significant sales gains through off-label usage in AML. * Define the gaps in the CML market opening via Gleevec-resistant patient populations, and identify new opportunities for drug development.
