Countries covered: Europe
This study analyzes the results of IDC's Manufacturing Insights 2009 survey that examined ICT budgets in Western Europe. The survey is based on 121 interviews at firms operating across Germany, the U.K., France, Italy, and Spain. In particular, in this report, we analyzed the brand-oriented value chain (BOVC), which is characterized by highly-variable demand industries that manufacture branded consumer products, such as apparel, food and beverage sectors, as well as durable consumer goods. This study depicts how overall ICT Budgets are changing, which line items will increase or decrease, and reports on priorities of business managers and CIOs. It also shows how managers in different European countries are responding to the recession. This report is part of a series, which includes: - IT vendors selection criteria and level of satisfaction
- Analysis of business solution adoption and investment plans.
"In every country and every sector, ICT operating budgets will fall. Improving the financial justification has become even more important, although reducing ICT costs is not the priority that it is in other industries. Nevertheless, users are focusing on projects that deliver rapid payback, and current projects are under review," says Pierfrancesco Manenti, EMEA Research Director, Manufacturing Insights. "Despite the gloom, the CPG manufacturing industry is one of Western Europe's largest ICT spenders. It continues to offer large opportunities to those ICT vendors who offer the solutions appropriate to the current climate.
