Production and Market of Sulfanilic Acid in China

Sulfanilic acid is an indispensable chemical intermediate widely used in dyestuff, superplasticizers, fluorescent whitening agent and pigment. Having produced for over 20 years, China has become a major production and exporting country of sulfanilic acid in the world.

China had 23 active sulfanilic acid producers, with total capacity of 90,000t/a and total output of 22,215 tonnes in 2008. Major producers include Hebei Dongfa, Tianjin Yueguo, etc.

Most sulfanilic acid produced in China is for export, which has accounted for over 70% of China’s total output in the past five years. Export of refined sulfanilic acid kept increasing with CAGR of 26% in 2004~2007, but declined sharply since 2008 due to the global financial crisis. How is the detailed situation of China’s sulfanilic acid export in 2008 and 2009? With disadvantages such as serious overcapacity, low operating rate of production facility, limited domestic market and low profit, where is the future of Chinese sulfanilic acid industry? Answers are available in the updated report.

Besides, basing on the original report finished in early 2008, CCM has carried out in-depth research and analysis on each active producer, as well as the whole industry to figure out the future development trend. Aspects as follows have been updated:
  • Import and export analysis from 2008 to H1 2009
  • Impacts of the global financial crisis on production and export
  • Latest consumption situation in China
  • Industry competition and structure analysis
  • Latest first-hand data of each producer
  • Active end users which is identified by telephone interview
  • For deeper research and analysis, CCM has also focused on:
  • Export/Import trend
  • Domestic consumption trend
  • Raw material supply and price trend in the past five years
  • Production situation and future development trend
With the information covered in the report, readers can see the general production and consumption situation of sulfanilic acid in China and realize that investment in China's already oversupplied sulfanilic acid industry doesn't seem to be a rational choice. It is recommended that cooperating with related enterprises to develop new products which are common in the overseas but are desperately needed in China may be a new way out.
