Preliminary results indicate that the global optical components (OC) market reached $966 million in 2Q09, a 3% quarterly increase and a 23% decline versus the year-ago period. Evidence of market stabilization was observed in all segments — telecom, datacom, and access — although some suppliers reported limited visibility in terms of forthcoming orders. Finisar posted the highest quarterly revenues, in part due to the strength of the recovery in datacom and brisk ROADM sales. This Alert summarizes Ovum’s preliminary findings; a full report on 2Q09 OC market performance will follow.
