The conclusion that Americans are not getting enough exercise is a fact likely to surprise few. The CDC recommends that adults get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week, yet Mintel’s exclusive research shows that only 3% of respondents are meeting these recommendations.
While more than half of all respondents (57%) wish they had more time to exercise, some 59% of respondents exercise for an hour or less a week, and 19% do not exercise at all. These findings align with a January 2008 press release by the Surgeon General, which reported that more than 60% of Americans do not exercise regularly, and 25% are not active at all.
