This IDC study provides an overview of the disk drive technology and the key factors influencing disk drive adoption rate in the Asia/Pacific region, with an emphasis on storage market user's behavior trend to current data growth. It introduces the advantages of Serial ATA (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), and Fibre Channel (FC) drives and market perspectives from end users and vendors. Furthermore, IDC provides a strategic forecast including possible drive adoption trend in the region, actions to be taken, business strategy, and end-user demand shifts. "Single drive support architecture will not survive today because of data diversity and applications' demands. Enterprise users now have to consider the multiple drive support to existing business applications. With the inner shifts of data type, a future use of SATA and SAS will take over the place where the FC drive stands today. Another challenge is from the solid state disk (SSD) and the price issue associated with technology innovation. Green and its features are largely affecting the disk drive invention. Sooner or later, we will see the huge movement from the disk drive market," says Reco Li, senior research analyst, Storage Research, IDC Asia/Pacific.
