Worldwide small- and medium-sized FPD shipment volume in 2008 reached approximately 2.9 billion units, and shipment value reached approximately US$17.5 billion. Shipment volume and value grew 5.4% and 2.7% respectively compared to 2007, which was mainly caused by the emergence of new application markets such as netbook, e-book reader and DPF display. However, the economic downturn has impacted the outlook for shipment volume and value in 2009. As for technologies, a-Si TFT-LCD accounts for almost 60% of worldwide small- and medium-sized FPD shipment value, consolidating its position as the mainstream technology. More than 50% of worldwide small- and medium-sized FPD panels are used in mobile phones. The mainstream technology TFT-LCD and the major market mobile phone are moving towards maturity; therefore, if no new display technologies or application products will emerge strongly, the worldwide small- and medium-sized FPD industry will experience slowing growth and declining profits. This report provides a detailed forecast for the worldwide small- and medium-sized FPD industry for the period 2009-2013.
