This IDC study examines the results of a survey administered in July and August 2008, in which 610 Business Intelligence Board (BIB) respondents shared their thoughts on the appropriate mix of learning delivery. Training leaders need to assess the strengths and weaknesses of different delivery vehicles and develop content using the best modality for the situation within their resource constraints. However, given the economic times, the trend of leveraging existing content across as many applications as possible will continue. Vendors need to help their clients select delivery modalities that anticipate changing trends in delivery options, learner preferences, and capabilities. This forward-thinking approach will enable clients to have content on the shelf in a format that is more likely to be consumed by their stakeholders.

"If a course is developed by a reputable provider, contains the same content, and is designed to achieve the same learning objectives, then it doesn't really matter what delivery option an enterprise makes available. Enterprises should seek to find the most appropriate content, then seek to deliver blended programs," says Cushing Anderson, program vice president, Consulting, HR, and Learning Services.
