This IDC study provides an analysis of the U.S. digital cable, satellite, and telco TV market and a forecast of digital subscribers through 2013. Subscribers are broken down by operator to show the market shares of the industry's major service providers and to illustrate the relative positioning of each market segment for 2003 and 2013. The analysis addresses the competition between cable and satellite and the emerging threat presented by telcos that are beginning to offer multichannel pay services. Included is a discussion of the key factors that will impact service provider competition. The impact of Internet video is also addressed. The forecast is broken down by digital cable, satellite, and telco TV subscribers and covers the years 2003-2013.

"The growth of telco TV has fundamentally changed the U.S. pay TV services market," says Greg Ireland, research manager in IDC's Consumer Markets program. "Even as satellite's growth has slowed, cable is under increasing threat from telco TV services that are already contributing to the erosion of cable's share of the market."
