This IDC study presents a profile of women-owned small businesses across areas such as demographics, IT spending, revenue, number of PCs and PC purchase plans, as well as printer, MFP, and LAN penetration. This study also discusses the nature of the opportunity women-owned businesses represent for providers of advanced technology products and services.
"Women-owned businesses are a force to be reckoned with in the U.S. economy, and the number of these firms has been growing at a faster rate than either the number of home-based businesses or small businesses operating outside of the home," says Merle Sandler, research manager in the SMB and Home Office programs at IDC. "These firms have lower levels of technology ownership than small firms in general, so there is an increasing opportunity for technology providers in targeting and serving this segment of the small business market."
