This Health Industry Insights report examines the expansion of evisit capabilities and evolving payer and provider strategies with respect to evisits. Consumers want to communicate online with their physicians and their practices as easily as they do with other entities whom they do business with. Announcements earlier this year by several major payers to reimburse physicians for conducting evisits has generated more interest in the topic as evidenced by the news coverage in the general and trade press.

"eVisits are evolving from portals that lay the groundwork for secure patient-physician communication to integration with electronic medical records (EMRs) and medical devices, to ultimately setting the stage for online care provided on demand and in real time," said Lynne A. Dunbrack, Health Industry Insights program director for Healthcare Payer and Provider Research.
