This 2007 CT Market Summary Report summarizes the 2007 results from the CT module of the 2006/07 IMV Census Database of CT/MRI facilities. This 2006/07 census is the eighth CT/MRI database, the prior ones having been conducted in 1993, 1994/95, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2001, 2002/03 and 2004. The basis and principal instrument underlying the CT/MRI Census is a telephone survey used to query all hospital and non-hospital sites in the United States performing CT and/or MRI procedures. Nearly all of the respondents (98%) interviewed in this 2006/07 CT Census are in departments or imaging centers administered by radiology. The remaining 2% are “other” departments/facilities, including mentions of radiation oncology/therapy, cancer centers and cardiology offices. While this survey did include responses from radiation oncology/cancer centers and cardiology offices, it is possible that not all of these types of facilities were accounted for in this survey, as the recruiting focus for this census was radiology departments and imaging centers.

The initial database of facilities performing CT and/or MRI procedures was established in 1992/93. Candidate sites are identified in the American Hospital Association’s AHA Guide: The AHA Guide to the Health Care Field. The AHA information is supplemented by lists of registrations of CT installations from the Food and Drug Administration, proprietary IMV lists and site lists identified through secondary research. Survey respondents are asked to identify other sites in their service areas. Responses are checked against the database, and newly identified sites are verified and added to the database.
