Automotive services include, but are not limited to, top, body, and upholstery repair; exhaust repair; glass replacement; transmission repair; and general repair. Many gasoline stations provide service garages as well, although some limit their services to oil changes and tune-ups. Automotive service operations cater to the do-it-for-me (DIFM) consumer segment.
There has been some conflict in recent years between independent service providers and vehicle manufacturers. Independent service providers have claimed that vehicle manufacturers have withheld valuable information necessary to perform maintenance and repair jobs on current models. The Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act has been introduced in Congress to resolve this matter.10/1/2005
