Following a revival from a post-Millennium slump, the French market for champagne stood at 3.55 billion in 2003, equalling volume sales of 125.1 million litres. However, market performance was dampened by increasing discounting and the expansion of distributors' own-labels. The most dynamic growth between 2001 and 2003 was registered by the rosé variety, which benefited from its novelty value and new product launches. Despite good growth in the rosé sector,brutremains by far the most important champagne style, accounting for over 85% of total volume sales in the off-trade in 2003
