Abstract

By 2008, the digital TV (DTV) and interactive TV (iTV) markets for pay-TV households will grow to 69 million and 54 million, respectively. DTV growth will be driven primarily by analog cable households going digital, not by nonpaying TV households going paid. The iTV market will be driven by cable DTV households in the long term and satellite homes in the near term because satellite will offer content owners and advertisers national reach. Digital video recorders (DVRs) and personal video recorders (PVRs) will experience rapid growth through the deployment of integrated cable and satellite receivers, but will continue to lag in the near term through stand-alone sales.
