Abstract

Introduction:
Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a new antidepressant, marketed by Eli Lilly, set to launch into the major depression and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) markets in mid-2003. The drug will be the second serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) reuptake inhibitor (SNaRI) product to reach many key markets, particularly the US, and represents an interesting dynamic in these areas.

Scope:
* In depth analysis of the current clinical data for duloxetine in major depression and stress urinary incontinence

* Strategic analysis of how Lilly will position duloxetine upon its launch, such as its focus on painful symptoms of depression

* A focus on the duloxetine co-marketing agreements the company has signed with Boehringer Ingelheim, Shionogi and Quintiles

* Analysis of how Wyeth are positioning Effexor against duloxetine and future line extension strategies for duloxetine

Report Highlights:
By focusing on the ability to treat pain, Lilly is hoping to create a perception that duloxetine is successful at treating all kinds of pain associated with depression, so physicians will prescribe the drug to any patient displaying somatic symptoms of depression

Physicians are unlikely to switch patients from a once-daily version of Effexor to a multi-regimen version duloxetine, as compliance will be a major issue. Effexor only began to show dramatic increases in its prescription levels following the launch of an extended-release version, with duloxetine likely to face a similar situation

Reasons to Purchase:
* Understand the key attributes about duloxetine in major depression and stress urinary incontinence

* Enhance your knowledge about Lilly’s entry and growth strategies for duloxetine

* Discover how duloxetine will be positioned against Effexor and what will be crucial to its commercial success
