Intel Pushes Moore's Law Further, Toward 2015 3-d Chips Promise Progression; Advancing Chip Power, For NowPublished by: Intelligence - The Future of Computing Published: May. 1, 2011 Table of Contents
AbstractIntel announced this month a new chip architecture to extend Moore’s Law: a 3-D transistor design called a FINFET (for fin field-effect transistor), for its next generation of chips. These new chips have a small fin situated on the top of each chip, creating a three dimensional structure, as opposed to the two dimensional planar structure of previous transistor and chip architectures. The new chips, with feature sizes reduced to 22 nm (nanometers), will start to appear at the end of this year, and be in full production in early 2012. Intel promises these new 3-D chips will offer “an unprecedented combination of power savings and performance gains.”Get full details about this report >> |
