AbstractWorld demand for electronic chemicals
is forecast to expand more than ten
percent per year to $18.5 billion in
2004. After a weak showing in 1998
and early 1999 due to the downturn in
the global semiconductor industry,
electronic chemical suppliers are
benefiting from aggressive spending on
new and upgraded fabs (chipmaking
facilities), which began in earnest in
2000 and will intensify through 2001/
2002, particularly facilities dedicated to
next generation 300 mm wafers.
New construction is concentrated in the
US and Asia (primarily Taiwan, as well
as South Korea and Japan), which, not
coincidentally, will see the largest gains
in electronic chemical demand. Based
on these trends, North America and
Asia will continue to account for more
than 85 percent of global demand for
electronic chemicals, with Western
Europe (primarily France and Germany)
accounting for most of the remainder.
Much of the activity outside of these key
countries is dedicated to back-end wafer
assembly and testing, rather than frontend fabrication, which lowers chemical
requirements significantly.
The World Electronic Chemicals
study covers the global market for electronic chemicals, including materials key
to the production of semiconductors,
printed circuit boards and passive components. It provides historical data and
forecasts to 2004 and 2009 by material,
product and market in current US dollars
for 6 regions and for 15 leading countries.
Market share for leading suppliers is provided as well as company profiles of the
leading global competitors.
