AbstractQatar’s consumer electronics devices market, defined as the addressable market for computing devices, mobile handsets and video, audio and gaming products, is projected at around US$448mn in 2010. Growth decelerated in 2009, but consumer demand held up reasonably well, compared with other states in the region, and is expected to increase to US$594mn by 2014On the back of expanding oil and (particularly) gas production levels, the Qatari economy will continue to record impressive real growth rates over the coming five years. BMI forecasts Qatari domestic market computer hardware sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$223mn in 2010, up from US$214mn in 2009. Computer hardware compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2010-2014 period is forecast at about 10%, with drivers including tenders in sectors like healthcare and education. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 34% of Qatari consumer electronics spending in 2009. Qatar’s domestic AV device market is estimated at US$148mn in 2010. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 3.1% between 2010-2014, to a value of US$167mn in 2014. Mobile Handsets Qatari market handset sales are expected to grow at a 2010-2014 CAGR of 8.6% to US$107mn by 2014. The replacement market will continue to dominate as mobile penetration passes 264% in 2014, and there will be growing demand for smartphones and 3G handsets. Increased competition in the mobile communications market following the launch of services by Vodafone Qatar in August 2009 will help to boost handset sales.
