Abstract

In its ardent quest on a complete makeover of the fundamental healthcare system, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates is undergoing an unprecedented revolutionary change in its Healthcare systems to emerge the world leader in providing state-of-art medical services at an affordable, easy to access manner. The World Bank estimates the total health care spending in GCC countries will reach US$60 billion in 2025 from its modest spending of US$12 billion currently.

Kudos to the relentless efforts contributed dominantly by the public sector amidst the insurgence of private sector hospitals GCC has in recent years achieved remarkable achievements in increasing the overall life expectancies, reducing infant mortality rates, overall death rates and other important health indicators. However, despite its tenacious measures the service is still in need of significant overhaul to cater to the demands of the ever escalating GCC Population along with increasing standards of living.

The team from Ventures Middle East is presenting this study which aims to provide a strategic overview of the entire system. In addition to conducting a detailed PESTLE analysis of the Political, Social, Technical, Legislative, Environmental and Economic factors impacting the system, the study aims to assess the various drivers and restraints impacting the growth in the healthcare sector.

The report provides vital statistics on the total number of hospital beds, physicians and nurses in addition to information on the ongoing and planned projects involved in the construction and maintenance of Hospitals and related health services across the GCC countries.

The study also assess the emerging trend on Medical tourism that had made its insurgence in the recent years and is well establishing solid roots across all sectors in the medical and healthcare system across GCC countries.
