As a result, the market size forecasts for 2009 and 2010 have been revised downward. Due to the worsening economic environment, the number of contracts such as those involving strategic consulting for new business development is decreasing in the Japan business consulting market. There is an increasing demand from customer companies to lower service prices in the Japan BPO services market so as to reduce costs. The market is also experiencing a decreasing number of new contracts. Service vendors should strengthen new services to survive the economic downturn and capture the recovering demand for business services from 2010. "It is important for business consulting vendors to strengthen their implementation support services in addition to providing support during the formulation of strategies. It is also important for BPO service vendors to strengthen their profitability as a measure against the intensifying price competition," says Mimei Ito, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
