The market covers desktop and portable PCs. The annual data in this study prior to 2008 represent actual values while those for 2009 onward are forecast values. As for the quarterly data, the information prior to 2Q09 (April-June) refers to actual values while those for 3Q09 (July-September) onward are forecast values. All the figures in this study were last updated in September 2009. "The financial crisis affected both the business and home client PC markets in 1H09. So far, the mininotebook PC shipment has been steadily growing. These models successfully broadened the range of PC prices and created new users. However, the demand for them has started to decrease and further growth is hard to expect if proactive measures are not taken. At present, mininotebook PCs are mostly purchased as backup PCs. In other words, they have not yet infiltrated the home market to the extent that every family member has one, like mobile phones. In the future, it will be necessary for vendors to narrow down their lists of targets and cultivate demand such as NTT DoCoMo with its Kids Mobile and Raku Raku Phone," says Masahiro Katayama, group manager, PC Research, IDC Japan.
