Abstract

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9250108, analyzes the Japan server market in 2008 by industry and company size. It also presents a five-year market forecast by industry. We compare the survey results in 2008 with the previous results and analyze the market changes from a user's perspective of server investments.

While the majority of the industries showed declining revenues in 2008, the revenue of the transportation industry was higher than in the previous year. "The transportation industry showed huge growth in 2008 due to the availability of large-scale replacement contracts. The industry that is worth watching in the future would be the service industry," analyzes Masamichi Karasawa, senior market analyst, Servers, IDC Japan.
