The banks’ profitability ratios returned in the positive area in Q2 and the annualised ROA for H1 was marginally positive (0.05%) after the negative 0.25% value in Q1.

The insurance market increased by 3% y/y to RON 4.6bn (EUR 1.1bn) in H1, but contracted sharply by 10.6% y/y in euros. This is the first negative correction of the market after years of two-digit growth.

The financing extended by leasing companies contracted steeply by 73.6% y/y to EUR 777mn in H1, prompted by the plunge in the car sales during the period. The prospects for the second half of the year remain pessimistic.

Private pensions continued to report good performance of all indicators during Jan-Aug.
