Turkey Textiles and Clothing Report Q4 2009Published by: Business Monitor International Published: Oct. 8, 2009 - 38 Pages Table of Contents
AbstractTurkey is a major global textile and clothing (T&C) producing country, with a dynamic and generallywell capitalised industry focused on serving key geographic markets - principally Europe, Russia and theMiddle East. BMI ranks it as number 17 in the world in terms of T&C manufacturing value added. Innominal terms, we estimate that to have been worth US$20.87bn in 2008. The industry has been facingquite strong competitive pressures in recent years, with the challenge from low-cost Asian producersforcing a process of restructuring and downsizing. The next two years of recession in almost all its keyexport markets will see more of the same. However, the more agile Turkish companies will be able topreserve market share in key product segments and position themselves for the recovery.Overall Turkish T&C value added will fall by 12.0% in 2009 and by 0.6% in 2010, reflecting verydifficult international economic conditions. We see a moderate recovery from 2011, with growth of 1.9%.The industry’s trade performance will also reflect the especially difficult international economic situationand the collapse of European demand. T&C exports will drop 10.0% to US$24.97bn, while imports willfall by 17.0% to US$7.38bn. As a result, the country will register a T&C trade surplus of US$17.59, alittle lower than in 2008 Get Full Details About This Report >> |
