Abstract

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9350105) summarizes results of the qualitative and quantitative analyses of the Japan software as a service (SaaS)/x as a service (XaaS) market, performed in June 2009. In this study, the SaaS market is divided into segments by application type while the XaaS market is divided into platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). This study also updates our forecast for the Japan SaaS/XaaS market within the period 2009-2013, as compared with our previous study (February 2009).

A rapidly increasing number of IT vendors place cloud computing (services) including SaaS/XaaS at the pillar of their IT services and IT businesses. While recognition of these services is increasing among companies, their understanding of the advantages and values of such services is still poor. "Vendors should promote sales/marketing activities from the customers' viewpoint," analyzes Satoshi Matsumoto, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
