Market shares are provided for leading vendors in 2008, with trends from 2006 to 2008. Market forecasts for each of these markets are provided for the period 2009-2013.

According to Tim Grieser, IDC vice president for Enterprise Systems Management Software research, "Growth in distributed platform performance and availability management software revenue was strong in the first three quarters of 2008. Growth rates are forecast to decline significantly for 2009 and 2010, due to the impact of the worldwide economic downturn. The long-term outlook is for annual growth rates to average in the mid-single digits."
