The study is complemented with a brief economic update at the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region to help explain changes in ICT spending for 2009. "Although 'budget cuts' and 'cost management' have become popular media topics, results from Forecast for Management Survey, 2009 indicate that three-fourths of responded companies were able to face the economic crisis without cutting IT budget or IT staff. Cost savings were achieved in key organisation areas such as administration and operations (45%) and ICT (11%). IT spending growth remained at steady levels. In fact, encouraging increases in IT spend can be spotted in the resource industry, health, government, and education. Additionally, IT spend as a percentage of opex increased from 6.3% in 2008 to 9.9% in 2009.," says Adam Lee, associate market analyst, IT Services, IDC New Zealand.
