Abstract

In the evening of September 11th, 2009, (local time of America), Obama decided to carry out punitive tariff on imported tires from China for three years. That is, based on the original tariff of 4%, American government additionally levies tariff of 35%, 30% and 25% respectively in the next three years, which takes effect on September 26th, 2009.

Therefore, Chinese tire export is closely concerned by global tire producers, traders and investors. In 2008, export of Chinese pneumatic rubber tires totaled 312.37 million and the export amount reached 8.06 billion USD.

In 2008, countries with the top ten import volumes of Chinese tires were: America, Mexico, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Italy and Belgium. Import volume of America reached 781,760, dropping by 4.5% YOY. Import amount of America totaled 2.45025 billion USD, rising by 3.8% YOY.

From January to July in 2009, export amount of Chinese pneumatic rubber tires reached 4.059 billion USD, dropping by 14.3% YOY.

From January to July in 2009, countries with the top ten import volumes of Chinese tires were: America, United Arab Emirates, England, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Canada, Nigeria, Germany and Pakistan.

From January to July in 2009, America’s import amount of Chinese tires totaled 1.2582 billion USD, falling by 11.2% YOY.
