AbstractIn H109, Russia sales of handsets, PCs, and other consumer electronics products experienced a sharpcontraction as the market continued to suffer the impact of the economic crisis. Following negativegrowth in 2009, demand is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around8.8% to US$22.4bn by 2013.Growth will be slower compared with the preceding five years, due to the challenging trading conditions,as well as relative saturation in some product groups. However, rising computer penetration, risingincomes and immense potential for spending by Russia’s more remote regions all represent long-termgrowth drivers. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 49% of Russian consumer electronics spending in 2008. BMI has downwardly revised its computer hardware spending projections following negative growth inPC sales in Q109. The PC market is now forecast to contract 18% in dollar terms in 2009. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2009-2013 period is forecast at 12%, driven by rising PC penetration, and sales of notebooks and netbooks. AV AV devices accounted for around 22% of Russian consumer electronics spending in 2008. Russia’s domestic AV device market is estimated at US$4.1bn in 2009. Demand for digital TV sets will drive a projected CAGR of 6% in the 2009-2013 period, as Russia makes a gradual, region-based, transition towards digital broadcasting. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 29% of Russian consumer electronics spending in 2008. Russia’smarket handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of just 6.9% to US$5.4bn in 2013, as mobile subscriberpenetration reaches 153%.
