Abstract

This IDC study is based on the results of a survey developed in partnership with Telematics Update and fielded in May 2009 among online U.S. navigation device and service consumers.

"Survey data suggests that U.S. consumers still favor portable navigation devices over GPS-enabled handsets as portable navigation solutions, and IDC believes that PNDs, done well, can coexist with GPS-enabled handsets in the navigation device market. Yet PND vendors need to focus on developing and refining the core value proposition of their devices to retain that competitiveness as more and more attractive GPS-enabled handsets and navigation applications come to market." — Susan Kevorkian, program director, Mobile Media and Entertainment
