AbstractThailand’s consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobilehandsets, and video audio and gaming products, is forecast to increase at a compound annual growth rate(CAGR) of about 9% to US$8.2bn by 2013, driven by growing affordability and new product releases. InH109, economic and political uncertainty affected demand for some consumer electronics products andencouraged vendors and retailers to cut prices to stimulate sales.The Thailand government’s stimulus package, which will boost the spending power of rural residents,should help the consumer electronics market rebound. The computerhardware CAGR for the 2009-2013 period is forecast at about 8%, in the context of a low PC penetration rate ofabout 14% currently. Drivers will include growing affordability of notebooks, wireless networking capabilities, andgovernment programs. In 2009 the government announced a 100,000 computer procurement program for education. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 30% of Thailand’s consumer electronics spending in 2008. The Thai domestic AVdevice market is projected to be worth US$1.8bn in 2009. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13 %between 2009 and 2013, to a value of US$3.0bn in that year. In 2009 vendors were planning to drive growth throughnew product releases, particularly in the TV set product category. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 15 % of Thai consumer electronics spending in 2008. Thai market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of around 4% to 10.5mn units in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 148%.
