AbstractMalaysia’s consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobilehandsets, and video audio and gaming products, was projected at around US$8.2bn in 2009. This isexpected to increase to US$10.2bn by 2013, driven by rising incomes and growing affordability of keyproducts.In H109 sales in some product categories were slower than expected, with sales of mobile handsets down,particularly of lower tier models. AV AV devices accounted for around 10% of Malaysian consumer electronics spending in 2008. Malaysia’s domestic AV device market is projected at US$810mn in 2009. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5% between 2009-2013, to a value of US$999mn in that year. Mobile Handsets Malaysian mobile handset sales accounted for around 61% of Malaysian consumer electronics spending in 2008.Malaysian market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 5% to 6.3mn units in 2013, as mobile subscriberpenetration reaches 123%. Growth will be slower than in the preceding five years due to slowing subscriber growth, butdemand will be sustained by a 130% increase in the number of 3G subscribers.
