It looks at the market performance of desktop and portable PCs and provides some commentary on x86 servers in major geographies, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ), and the rest of the world (ROW). "The worldwide PC market had a year-on-year decline of 7.3%, which was slightly better than the expected 8.4% decline. Sequential growth was -14.6% and, also, outperformed the forecast 15.6% contraction. Worldwide shipments reached 65 million. Consumer markets have been more resilient and performed far better than expected. This was largely attributed to decreasing costs that can be tied to the post-holiday activity, which included channels clearing and fiscal year-end competitive promotions among key vendors, as well as the impressive traction of mininotebooks that are driving the prices of portables down," says Andrew Hanson, analyst, United States Quarterly PC Tracker.
