AbstractThe Czech Republic’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computingdevices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, is projected to be worth aroundUS$4.5bn in 2009. The outlook for retail spending remains weak as real incomes stall, and with consumerconfidence at a record low of -27.1% in February, household consumption is projected to fall by 2.1%this year.Growth will be slower compared with the preceding five years, but the Czech market remains betterplaced than some others in the region, and overall spending is expected to increase to US$5.6bn by 2013.Key drivers will include expanding PC penetration and the growing popularity of products such as LCDTV sets, notebook computers, and 3G handsets. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 49% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008 and willcontinue to be the largest product segment. BMI forecasts Czech domestic market computer sales(including notebooks and accessories) of US$2.2bn in 2009, with little growth from 2008. Computerhardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 8.6%, driven by sales of notebooks andnetbooks. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 39% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. The CzechRepublic’s domestic AV device market was estimated at US$1.8bn. Despite expected negative growth in2009, a CAGR of 1.9% is projected for 2009-2013, due largely to continued growth in the digital TV setcategory. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. Czechmarket handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of just 1.1% to US$561mn in 2013, as mobilesubscriber penetration reaches 137%.
