AbstractThe Philippines’ domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$3.6bn in 2008. This is expected to increase to US$5.2bn by 2013, although a weaker global economy, and a slowdown in remittances, could affect sales in some product groups in 2009.
Computers
Computers accounted for around 40% of Philippine consumer electronics spending in 2008. BMI forecasts Philippine domestic market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$1.3bn in 2009, up from US$1.2bn in 2008. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 9%, with much growth coming from increasing PC penetration, which is about 4% currently.
AV
AV devices accounted for around 22% of Philippine consumer electronics spending in 2008. Philippine domestic AV device market was estimated at US$800mn. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% between 2008-2013, to a value of US$1.05bn in that year.
Mobile Handsets
Mobile handset sales accounted for around 38% of Philippine consumer electronics spending in 2008. Philippine market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 10% to 13.7mn units in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 154%. Sales will be dominated by lower-priced mass market phones, but 3G subscriber numbers will rise to 14.2mn during the forecast period.
