AbstractSouth Korea’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$11.6bn in 2008. This is expected to increase to US$12bn by 2013, at a CAGR of 0.7%, slower than in the preceding five years.Computers Computers accounted for around 32% of South Korea consumer electronics spending of US$11.6bn in 2008. BMI forecasts South Korea computer hardware sales of US$3.8bn in 2009, unchanged from the previous year. CAGR for the 2008-2013 period will be around 1.4%, but there will be growth areas in multimedia and entertainment notebooks. AV Video, audio and gaming devices accounted for around 24% of South Korea consumer electronics spending in 2008. South Korea’s domestic video, audio and gaming device market was estimated at US$2.8bn in that year. The market is expected to decline at a CAGR of -2.7% between 2008-2013, to a value of US$2.4bn in that year, due largely to saturation of the LCD TV segment. Video applications will account for around 60% of demand during the forecast period. Mobile Handsets South Korea market mobile handset and handset device sales accounted for around 44% of Taiwan consumer electronics spending in 2008. Total Taiwan market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of about 2.7% to 24.3mn units in 2013, with the market driven mainly by replacements as penetration is already above 100%.
