AbstractSerbia’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile
handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$1.1bn in 2008.
Despite an expected slowdown in 2009, demand is expected to increase at a CAGR of 13% to US$1.98
bn by 2013, driven by the growing popularity of digital products like LCD TV sets, notebook computers
and digital cameras.
Computers
Computer hardware accounted for around 42% of Serbia’s consumer electronics spending in 2008 and
will continue to be the largest product segment. BMI forecasts Serbia’s domestic market computer sales
(including notebooks and accessories) of US$547mn in 2009, up from US$462mn in 2008. Computer
hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 18%, driven by sales of notebooks and
netbooks.
AV Devices
AV devices accounted for around 36% of Serbia’s consumer electronics spending in 2008. The Serbian
domestic AV device market was estimated at US$396mn. Despite an expected growth slowdown in 2009,
a CAGR of nearly 6% is projected for 2008-2013, due largely to growth in the digital TV set category.
Mobile Handsets
Mobile handset sales accounted for around 22% of Serbia’s consumer electronics spending in 2008.
Serbia’s market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 11% to US$405mn in 2013, as mobile
subscriber penetration reaches 132%. Sales will be increasingly dominated by the replacement market,
with an emerging market for 3G handsets.
