AbstractPeru’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video, audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$1.5bn in 2008.Despite current global economic headwinds, the market is expected to grow a CAGR of 9.8% to US$2.5bn by 2013, driven by demand for LCD TV sets, notebook computers, digital cameras and other key products, and by rising incomes and greater credit availability. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 36% of Peru’s consumer electronics spending in 2008, with PC penetration still below 20%. BMI forecasts Peru’s market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories) of approaching US$486mn in 2009, up from US$442mn in 2008. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 9%, driven by sales of notebooks and netbooks. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 42% of Peru consumer electronics spending in 2008. Peru’s domestic AV device market was estimated at US$646mn. Sales of digital TV sets and digital cameras are projected to drive AV spending growth at a projected CAGR of nearly 13% between 2008 and 2013. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 22% of Peru’s consumer electronics spending in 2008. Peru’s market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% to US$450mn in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 94%.
