AbstractThe Czech Republic’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$4.6bn in 2008.Growth will be slower compared with the preceding five years, but overall spending is expected to increase to US$5.9bn by 2013, driven by expanding PC penetration and the growing popularity of products such as LCD TV sets, notebook computers, and 3G handsets. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 49% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008 and will continue to be the largest product segment. BMI forecasts Czech domestic market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$2.1bn in 2009, up from US$1.8bn in 2008. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 18%, driven by sales of notebooks and netbooks. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 38% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. The Czech Republic’s domestic AV device market was estimated at US$1.8bn. Despite expected negative growth in 2009, a CAGR of nearly 4% is projected for 2008-2013, due largely to continued growth in the digital TV set category. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 12% of Czech consumer electronics spending in 2008. Czech market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of just 0.1% to US$562mn in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 137%.
